Northlake Designs: 5 Features of the Perfect Kitchen Island

Northlake, Texas, is a prime real estate market, and homes in the area tend to maintain or add their value over time. If you are considering buying a home in Northlake, one of the ways you can appreciate the value of your property is by installing a modern kitchen island with all the amenities a family needs. The kitchen is the heart of the home and the place everyone flocks at the very start and end of the day. And what better way to elevate your family’s experiences than to equip your kitchen, precisely your kitchen island, with these five invaluable appliances?

    Seating Options

The Northlake TX realtors Berry Boyd Group has listed many homes in Texas as single-family units with large kitchens. Such a home will often have a large kitchen and a kitchen island where you can entertain guests, cook while you work, and where your children can do their homework and enjoy a snack. It only makes sense that this multi-purpose area should have seating. You only need something fancy if you entertain all your guests here, so anything from pull-up counter stools to a built-in banquette will work. Whatever your choice, account for at least 24 inches of space per person.

    Task Lighting

Lighting can be decorative, ambient, or task-related. While you will likely have primary ambient lighting in the kitchen, add some task lighting to the island area. This is a workspace where you prep your meals, eat, and sometimes work, so it makes sense to have sufficient lighting here to perform these tasks. Consider popular task lighting options like down-facing sconces, bright spotlights, under-cabinet lighting, pendant lamps, and recessed can lighting.

    Cabinet Storage

Storage is one of the critical elements of a functional kitchen, and your island can serve as extra storage. Remember to choose a practical storage option that does not overload your kitchen island or make it appear crowded. Popular choices include hidden cabinets, roll-out trays, and pull-out drawers. The key is to create extra space in your kitchen without cluttering the kitchen island area.

    Built-in Appliances

Built-in appliances are just the thing to make your kitchen island fully functional and independent of the rest of the kitchen area. The build of your kitchen island will also ensure these appliances don’t take up space and are otherwise concealed. Depending on your needs, they can be wall ovens, wine coolers, microwaves, or a cooktop.

    Prep Sink

Your kitchen already has a sink, but no rule says you cannot have two. Adding a secondary sink to your kitchen island can eliminate your need to keep walking across the kitchen as you cook. It can also turn your island into a mini kitchen where you have everything you need to prepare a meal. This second sink can add efficiency if multiple cooks are in the kitchen.
